Chemical alchemy inspires gin brand for passion project

What started with a casual conversation in a local watering hole resulted in the creation and launch of the Rutland Distillery (Rd) brand and range of Gn, infused gin products.

It had always been the dream of Rd’s owner to create and launch a range of unique infused gins. Established by adopting the more unusual vacuum distilling process, derived from the owners pharmaceutical knowledge. As this distilling process requires less heat, it captures and enhances more of the heat sensitive botanical flavours, resulting in a more intense taste that lingers on the palette.

Focusing on the owners pharmaceutical background and the more unique distilling process, the essence for the new Rutland Distillery logo and application style came together rather swiftly – what if we utilise visual stimulus from the world of chemistry to create a range of unique compounds. Combining this thinking with victoriana style hand-drawn illustration, bold colour application, linked to each Gn product’s ingredients, created by brush dripping watercolour paints, and a clever naming strategy, that allowed the creation of an Rd branded Periodic Table of 9 infused Gns. Eureka! Rutland Distillery (Rd) brand and its range of infused Gins (Gn) was born.

With each Gn number being an important product identifier, this plays an important role on the bottled and packaged product. Die-cutting the number into the full wraparound label is a lovely touch.

Commencing with Gn7, with its notes of orange and grapefruit, the hints of peppercorn spice Gn8 followed and more recently Gn9 with its punchy citrus and ginger flavours was unveiled. While Rd pursue a licence to produce the products in larger quantities our client is producing these 3 core products in small batches.

The hand-crafted nature of the Rutland Distillery logo was created by producing a set of rubber stamps and hand-stamping the logo onto various substrates. The final chosen set of logos were then scanned to create digital versions.

All that have sampled these Gn’s agree that there is definitely something special and more unique about the taste. We are thrilled to be a part of the Rd journey to date and very excited to witness the next evolving chapter.
